Danes, ko postajam pionir...*

On this day 25 years ago, I became a pionir
It was 1988, Tito was long dead, Yugoslavia was on the verge of an economic and political collapse that would cause a decade-long turmoil and various wars. But one of the most important rites of passage in a young Yugoslavian's life still claimed a lot of attention from teachers, parents and said young Yugoslavian.

I was six and a half years old and in 1st grade, bored out of my mind in school because I already knew how to read and write and reading and writing was basically what I was supposed to be learning at that time. The annoying insufferable knowitall in me was having a smug moment, while my teacher was kind of furious.

Joining the Pionir organization was a huge deal and almost as big a milestone as starting school. It blows my mind how much things have changed since then.

A pretty navy blue pleated skirt, cool red neckerchief, a pin, a solemn oath and delicious cake were involved. Parents were proud and there was no homework that day. It was so cool.

"Danes, ko postajam pionir, dajem častno pionirsko besedo: Da se bom pridno učil in delal, spoštoval starše in učitelje, da bom zvest in iskren tovariš, ki drži svojo obljubo;
Da se bom ravnal po zgledu najboljših pionirjev, da bom spoštoval slavna dejanja partizanov in napredne ljudi sveta, ki žele svobodo in mir;
Da bom ljubil svojo domovino, samoupravno Socialistično Jugoslavijo, njene bratske narode in narodnosti in gradil novo življenje, polno sreče in radost."*

So tonight, I'll briefly celebrate.
Cheers.

Jules

*The Pionir oath. In Slovenian, obviously. The message is actually pretty positive and there's no brain washing. Google translate to learn a piece of our history if you will, my dear non-Slovenian readers.

(Almost) Textless Thursday (24)

Thanksgiving is a big deal over here.
So, a happy one to all my American readers (food coma included).
I love pumpkin pie, so I guess I shall like the holiday.

24 hours of peace and quiet

Two very lovely ladies were visiting the past few weeks and we had a blast. Huh, having a social life is kind of fabulous, my dears. I seem to have forgotten that...
But they left on Friday and there was someone else flying in yesterday. Which is a whole other level of awesomeness. But which also means that I had a whole one day to enjoy the blissful luxury of having my home all for myself.

View from my morning bike ride

I had tons of TV shows to catch up on, a few books to open after a long time and tea to drink, a face to scrub and pamper, and a box of dark chocolate covered slated caramels to finish off, all in the company of the weirdest great music from my iTunes library. And a brand new scented candle.

Sweet sweet doing nothing AKA calm before the storm.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go tend to my social life.
Cheers,
Jules

I did it.

His majesty.

I finally took the plunge and got a very fancy phone. Probably the fanciest out there. The very fancy iPhone 5s to be exact. I feel weird.

In the box. The phone was in my hand, taking the picture.
So pardon its absence

I am happy and a little overwhelmed by the fanciness.

SOTD: Caitlin Rose - No one to call. Duh!

That's about it. I've got laundry to do now.

Ciao,
Jules

Truth, all the truth, and nothing but the truth.

Source.

Lately, there've been HUGE amounts of drama at work. So, the picture above synthesizes my feelings about the situation perfectly. Yup, Tard's wisdom never disappoints. I mean, to some extent it was hilarious to observe smart, grown MEN act like catty teenage plastics, but enough is enough.

SOTD: Winnie the Pooh - Everything is honey.

On a brigter note, I have visitors from home and we opened their stay with medica shots. Nice. It reminded me how much I dislike honey, but also how much I needed booze with my bitches. I'm so glad they're here!

Lately.

Oh, boy, tis blog is dusty and neglected! I am so sorry. Life kind of took over...

Let's catch up, my dears.

So. Many. Pumpkins. Everywhere.
Ireland and Estonia love me. Ok, I might be exaggerating.
But at least a few people from those two lovely countries think of me.

Thank you, ladies!
New scent for the home.
Kate Spade mint green heels. A favourite.

SOTD: Morphine - Honey White.

Yes, life has been a bit up and down these past few weeks. There has been drama at work, spinster ways in terms of being either cooped up in the lab or cooped up at home with an empty fridge, Seamless abuse and Homeland catch-up. I am pathetic.

But, between Carrie and Brody and westerns and IPs, I managed to savour life from time to time. And to catch it on camera, so I have proof.

The Marathon. All those people are superheroes!

Boot season at last.

Hey, unbelievers, western worked.
Not the prettiest looking blot, I admit, but we got bands.

Jules walked into Sephora to get nail polish remover.
Walked out with Clinique Black honey collection
(legendary Almost lipstick PLUS nail polish and gloss).
Yay for sophisticated vixen makeup!

A little bit of wisdom from my girl AM.
Autumnal views from the 5th floor.

I better leave the house now. A reasonably nice Saturday is waiting for me outside of this apartment.
Enjoy your weekend.
